info Deep Sympathy for the Victims of the Disaster

As the chairperson of JANIC, I would like to express deep sympathy for the people affected by the North-East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami that occurred on March 11, 2011, and for the people who have been evacuated from the areas surrounding the nuclear power plants in Fukushima.

Some of our member NGOs have started emergency assistance and others have indicated a desire to cooperate for disaster relief, recovery and rebuilding assistance, as well as donations. JANIC will act as a channel of outreach and coordination to support NGOs so their activities of disaster relief are proper and effective, including cooperating with local non-profit organizations, volunteer centers, social welfare councils, local governments, the national government's Disaster Volunteer Coordination Room, and international groups providing support. We will do all we can to improve this situation.

JANIC has established the NGO Relief Fund for Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.
Donations to this fund will be distributed equally to our member NGOs that are experienced in disaster relief and grass-roots support in developing countries. The funds will be used to distribute daily essentials to the victims and to improve their lives.

We are deeply concerned that this severe situation is continuing. However, we will together step forward to overcome the disaster and walk the path toward recovery.
