JANIC publishes "Narrative Report on the State of National Implementation of SDGs: Focus on SDG 16"

Since 2016, the Japanese government has developed a system to promote the SDGs in Japan, however, efforts on SDG 16 are lagging behind, and data on progress has not been sufficiently disclosed. In addition, there are major challenges related to civic space, such as inadequate public records management and the lack of penalties for hate speech.

This report introduces examples of civil society activities to achieve SDG 16 and will be used to make recommendations from civil society for the Voluntary National Review (VNR), the second SDG progress report by the Government of Japan, scheduled to be released in July 2021.
