The Citizens' Ise-Shima Summit
- Proposals from the Citizens to the Region and the World -

May 23 (Mon) - 24 (Tues), 2016

In accordance with the G7 Ise-Shima Summit held on 26-27 May in Mie Prefecture, civil society organizations, including NGOs and NPOs, within and outside of Japan, come together to hold "The Citizens' Ise-Shima Summit" (Citizens'Summit), with an aim to form a "Strong Civil Society", raising proposals on both regional and international issues, in a bid to send a strong message to local, regional and international communities.

In these 2 days, CSOs will present their proposals on 15 themes including Disaster Prevention/Risk Reduction, the Implementation of SDGs , Education for Sustainable Development, Regional Inequality, Peace etc.

"Citizen Declaration" will be adopted along with various proposals at the end of Citizen's Summit. They will be presented to both local and international media during the "Voice from the Civic Society" event that will take place on the opening of the International Media Center in Mie Prefecture Sun Arena from 25 May onward.

Join us for those interested or concerned about the contents of the proposals, or the relationships between the G7 Summit and civil societies. We are looking forward to your participation.

10:00 - 12:00 Opening Ceremony
- Opening speech and explanation of the Objective of the Citizens' Summit
- Issues and works undertaken by civil societies regarding the G7 Ise-Shima Summit
- Panel Discussion "Towards a strong civil society that connects the region and the world"

13:15 - 15:45 1st Breakout Sessions
- Africa: considering the key to solving the issues on African cultures, agriculture and respect for diversity
- Syrian refugees（documentary screenings / panel talk) : Let us examine together the disastrous state of the Syrian conflicts
- Food security: a cross-talk on 'Food Security' in close relation to 'Nutrition' hosted by Global Poverty Project
- Disaster: Relating the challenges faced by the citizens of Japan, a country with high levels of disasters, on activities in disaster prevention/disaster relief
- Children: in a bid to break the poverty chain for children
- Environment: in pursuit of enriching the watershed thinking, Ise Bay Initiatives
- Youth 1: Raising issues that young people concern in reaction to the results of the G7 Youth Summit

16:00 - 18:30 2nd Breakout Sessions
- Globalization and health: Examining the health issues of the Dalit people in India based on the experience from the city of Yokkaichi
- Climate change / Biodiversity / Disaster Risk Reduction: Verification from cross-sectorial perspectives
- Regional Inequality: solving the global issues from a region
- Youth 2： messages to the G7 and the future from the young people

18:45 - 20:00 Reception (a networking event) locally produced and fair trade food and drinks will be served. A separate participation fee of 3,000 yen will be charged for the reception.

** Tuesday 24 May **

9:30 - 12:00 3rd Breakout Sessions
- Sustainable development Goals (SDGs): considering the action of 'No one is left behind' in a bid to achieve the SDGs
- Peace: suggestions to achieve a world without wars and peaceful, inclusive societies
- Immigrants and refugees / Multicultural coexistence: what is Multicultural coexistence? considerations on the current situations of migrants and refugees in the region
- Education: from ESD education for sustainable development to the enlightenment, practice and recommendations of SDGs
- Strong civil society: starting from the participation and publication by the citizens, to the sustainable future of the region and the world

12:00 - 13:30 Excursion: Tour at the neighboring "Yokkaichi Pollution and Environmental Museum for Future Awareness *Guided tour available (capacity: 30 people)

13:30 - 15:30 Plenary session
- Presentations from the respective sectional meeting
- Declarations adopted by the citizens

*Performance*:
A performance that involves all participants using Japanese calligraphy will be conducted inside the venue. This event is held on both days.
