    Founded in 1987 by visionary NGO leaders, JANIC has spent decades strengthening Japan\u2019s civil society. As a multi-award-winning organization, we have become a premier platform bridging local expertise with global social movements.<\/p>\n\n

    Oct. 1987<\/td>\nEstablished as the “Japanese NGO Center for International Cooperation (JANIC)” as a voluntary organization.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Apr. 1988<\/td>\nPublished the first edition of the “NGO Directory.”<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Apr. 1996<\/td>\nLaunched the “NGO-MOFA Regular Consultation Meetings” with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Oct. 1998<\/td>\nLaunched the “NGO-JICA Consultation Meetings” with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Mar. 2001<\/td>\nObtained NPO corporate status; changed the Japanese organization name to “Kokusai Kyoryoku NGO Center.”<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Sep. 2004<\/td>\nEstablished the “NGO-Labor Union International Collaboration Forum.”<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Dec. 2008<\/td>\nLaunched the “Accountability Self-Check (ASC)” system (revised in 2012 and 2021).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Jul. 2009<\/td>\nReceived the Foreign Minister\u2019s Commendation.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Mar. 2011<\/td>\nCommenced relief activities following the Great East Japan Earthquake.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Jul. 2015<\/td>\nEstablished the “Japan Quality and Accountability Network (JQAN).”<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Apr. 2016<\/td>\nSigned the United Nations Global Compact.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Sep. 2018<\/td>\nReceived the JICA President\u2019s Award.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Feb. 2019<\/td>\nLaunched HAPIC (Humanitarian and Peacebuilding International Conference).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Aug. 2020<\/td>\nReceived the 10th Okinawa Peace Prize.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    Apr. 2022<\/td>\nEstablished the policy think tank “THINK Lobby.”<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
